Description
Floodclan’s territory resides in a vast, subtropical, and low-lying floodplain near the ocean. The clan migrates biannually to escape the flood rains that appear every greenleaf (the start of wetleaf) and ends at the start of every leafbare (the start of dryleaf). In wetleaf (greenleaf and leaffall) the clan resides in the southern edge of the Pine Grove. Once the rains recede in dryleaf and the temperature drops, the clan returns east to the borders of the Wetlands to be closer to the river. Their territory closer to the river is far more protected with natural land barriers such as mountainous hills to the north, the Winding River to the east (and otter territory to the east) and the coast to the south. Dryleaf is the least tumultuous time for Floodclan. Being so close to the coast means that few, if any Floodclan cats have ever experienced snow, so the clan generally enjoys mild weather with abundant prey that have returned due to the receded waters. Floodclan commands the wetlands, but a longstanding pact and alliance between the first leader of Floodclan (Daystar) and the one of the first otter matriarchs (Liua) means that the two species coexist peacefully and protect each other’s land with the otters patrolling territory east of the river and on the river. Floodclan generally steers clear of the territory east of the winding river out of respect for the otter tribe’s space. However, the strip of land near the Crescent Lake and the Twoleg Village is mutually regarded as neutral territory. To the north in the wetleaf territory, beyond a small rise of mountainous hills and a diverging set of rivers is Sunclan, one of Floodclan's closest allies. To the southeast is an even more distant clan called Fogclan, but at the moment little is known of this even more elusive clan.
Wetleaf is a different matter for Floodclan cats. Their wetleaf territory is the most vulnerable to invasions with the clan bordering their territory to the far west (Wishclan), so border disputes on the far edge of the Dry Plains and Lush Forest are frequent and sometimes violent once wetleaf (the start of Greenleaf) begins. Prey is generally bigger and harder to catch in their Wetleaf territory, but no less abundant. To the south resides an isolated lake named for the deer that frequent it in the summer and fall months, and the Lush Forest that is disputed over with the bordering clan. To the north resides a large twoleg town, but beyond the town lays uncharted land that Floodclan believes belongs to distant groups unaffiliated to clan life. However, visiting the Twoleg Town is sometimes dangerous due to Eagle Rock, where a large bald eagle pair resides on the outskirts of Dead Hills.
